Sometimes I choose my cocktail to match the week’s flowers.
I’m joking of course. Well mostly joking, I confess that there may be a grain of truth in there.
It’s Negroni week (who knew?) and happily I love Negronis. Mr L, aka @aginthing_ over on Instagram, is not so enamoured but he is very happy to indulge me. Happily his personal taste does not hinder his mixing skills in the slightest.
The result is a glorious marriage of flowers and drink. I’m not normally drawn to flowers in these colours but I do think these Ranunculas wear their hot colour well.
Serves 1 Generously
30ml Gin (we used Forager’s Gin from the Snowdownia Distillery )
30ml La Copa Vermouth (Gonzalez Byass)
A Twist of Orange Zest
Place a few cubes of ice into a Boston Cocktail Shaker (I’m reliably informed by the in-house mixologist that this is the correct name for what I wanted to refer to as a jug).
Pour the liquid ingredients over the ice and stir to chill. Strain into a glass of your choice over ice, I plumped for one giant ice cube, I find the small ones melt too quickly and water down my booze. Just sayin’.
By the way, it’s nice to add a bit of a flourish when you do the pour, it won’t make a blind bit of difference to the taste but it’s fun for the person watching.
Now, you’ve made a properly fancy drink with the finest ingredients so do make sure you serve it in a beautiful glass. I like an Old Fashioned, with a pleasant ring to it and no ugly bump on the rim please.
Garnish with a twist of orange.
