A Week Of Happy

9th October 2018

I’ve started a daily journal practice.  I’ve never really been a diary keeper.  In years gone by I did take part in project 365 a few times, a daily photo journal I suppose and I guess to some extent Instagram is a journal of sorts, all be it a carefully curated version.

Anyways, I digress. I’m planning on writing a blog post all about the journal thing because I’m very excited about it right now, but that’s for another day.  Inspired by my adventures into the world of journaling and the different techniques I’ve been trying, is the idea of reflecting on my week and recalling the things that brought me joy.  A regular weekly post.  A gratitude journal I guess.  A week of happy.  Because even in a bad week (which this was not), there is usually somewhere to find joy.

I love the idea of reflecting on those moments of joy.  Collating them together.  Writing them down.  Committing them to memory.  A bank to call upon in times of need.

So this is my list from last week – my week of happy

Candle Season

I light candles all year round but it’s round about now that they really make me extra happy.  They have that magic ability to make an evening instantly cosy.  They make us linger at the table, meals take longer and the chat grows more relaxed.

New Friends

Simpson Sisters Oak Tree Barn

When virtual friends become actual friends.  Vanessa, of The Simpson Sisters, invited me to stay with her at her beautiful barn.  My family raised an eyebrow when I told them I was off to meet a stranger from the internet.  It didn’t feel strange in the slightest.  As Vanessa came across the grass to greet me it felt exactly like meeting a dear friend who one has known forever.  And we hardly stopped talking for the next 24 hours.

Autumn is just getting into her stride and it’s so good to be outside.

Sunday afternoon cocktails and notebooks

happy moments

Sitting at the kitchen table on a Sunday afternoon with a fancy drink and gorgeous notebooks, pork roasting in the oven and the sun dipping low in the sky.  Heaven.

So there it is, a little round up of things that made me happy last week.  Small things that brought joy.  Tell me about your happy moments.

How lovely that you will be doing this; I shall look forward to reading your journal.
I always fail at recording things but, on a recent Scottish holiday I spent the afternoon at Oban Northpier where the ferries and other interesting craft come to discharge passengers and load up with goods. Sitting in the local restaurant (which has a special glass for the windows because the rain ran off them immediately!) I was able to watch the busyness of the port and enjoyed a delicious meal in a warm and friendly environment.

I’ve been looking forward to reading this all day, and as I sit down with a glass of wine at the end of a busy one it’s put a big smile on my face. Firstly, I love the idea of a weekly gratitude blog/journal and the images are a wonderful way of sharing your pleasures. And secondly the memory of us meeting is such a pleasure for me too – here’s to meeting strangers from the internet more often (in a good way!) xx
